With household costs ever increasing across Lancashire, making a little extra money on the side is always helpful. If you travel to work every day leaving your driveway free, however, you could already be sitting on a small pot of gold.
Thousands of people across the country are currently earning a bit of extra cash by charging motorists to park on their driveways. By undercutting the cost of expensive car parks, savvy householders can pocket thousands of pounds annually, Love Money reports.
The publication recounted the experiences of householder Ann Hammill, who said that she joined parking site JustPark in 2015 and has benefited from her property’s proximity to the rugby stadium over the road, raking in £2,200 over the past couple of years.
According to the publication, people letting out their parking spaces through JustPark make an average of just over £1,000 per space, although this rises to more than £3,000 per space in the most sought-after areas.
Ms Hammill, who charges £15 a day to rent out a parking space on her property, said she is impressed by how easy the process is – payments can be made directly into her account via the website.
“It’s a stress-free way of making a bit of extra money,” she added.
If you’ve got enough land, why not transform the extra space into a driveway? The money earned from renting out a parking space will soon mean that the driveway has paid for itself – plus, you’ll have added to the value of your property by between five and ten per cent.
