The Society of Garden Designers (SGD) has unveiled the winners of its 2017 awards, showcasing some of the most stunning and inspiring garden design projects in the UK in the past 12 months.

If you’re thinking of tackling your outdoor space this year, you may want to have a look at some of the judges’ picks to get some inspiration.

Water featured in many of the winning residential gardens, either in the form of pools, fountains or unusual water features.

There was a fair amount of decking across a number of the winners too. Some of the top outdoor spaces utilised it in unusual shapes to make their garden really stand out.

If you’re looking at your garden and wondering how to transform it from a rather empty space into something spectacular, it’s worth getting professionals to help with decking in Lancashire and any other more complicated features you’d like to include in your green space.

Of course, the SGD awards aren’t only about the features utilised in a garden’s design, but also the planting too. Making sure that you pick flowers, shrubs and trees that suit the space and provide the right balance of colour, scent and shade is equally as important.

Even if you only have a very small outside space – such as a sunken basement garden – there are still ways to enhance it.

Homes & Property recently recommended using mirrors, trellis and a selection of plant pots to revamp this kind of space and make it somewhere you can enjoy.
